Schoenberg calls for details from Quinn on mental health facility closures

The last thing we want to do is see a false promise made to the loved ones of clients at JDC and Tinley Park.
- Sen. Jeff Schoenberg, co-chair of COGFA

Governor Pat Quinn has called for the closure of two mental health facility closures in Illinois as a cost-cutting measure, the Jacksonville Developmental Center and the Tinley Park Mental Health Center. The bi-partisan Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability held a standing room only hearing today intended to review the administration’s plans to transition clients, employees, and physical facilities.

After the hearing, COGFA co-chair and Assistant Majority Leader Jeff Schoenberg discussed how he sees the process moving forward with the commission having adjourned for one more hearing each in Jacksonville and Tinley Park before the governor’s budget speech later this month.
